Sport, food, sleep: how to adapt your body and soul to summer

Do you know the moment when you mow the lawn for the first time? When the green, fresh and lush spring grass suddenly hides under the winter grass? Do you know the moment when the sun wakes you up with its power and you turn the cabin upside down?

In 2022 – in my opinion – spring cleaning was especially important. Two years of Korona and a war that started in the winter left a lot of dirt – figuratively speaking. Physically, some things really stayed in place. From a purely psychological point of view, it was a lot of negative energy that affected us more or less all of us. Despite all this, I am accustomed to an important ritual: every April I completely cleanse my body and soul.

The first runs are slow and intense

And so it works: To develop a new awareness of running, I first switch to spring recovery mode. It’s not more than a 6-beat for a few weeks. These are the runs where the road leads only to me. These runs are my meditation.

Slowly I enjoy the air, the buds everywhere, the special power of the sun. I breathe consciously and deeply, as soon as I hurry, the clock stops me with alarm. I do not want to be fast, I do not want to perform well, I want to be healthy. I want quiet. And I want my body to calm down in recovery. I intentionally call them detox runs.

For an experienced runner, they can be a real pain. Because everything seems extremely slow. Lastly, when you are overtaken by other runners, you need one thing above all: discipline to not get faster. The challenge is: Getting home with almost no sweat.

Water! Only water!

I love energy drinks. I like apple juice spritzer, coffee is good for me. Alcohol-free beer is really a pleasure for me, but: For spring cleansing of the body can only be water. Mix with pleasure with fresh mint or a little lemon, but only water, four to five liters per day.

It is the feeling of being clean. No unnecessary sugar, no excess carbohydrates. Pure is the magic word. And if you want to fix your body, if you want to wipe it with a damp cloth, the only thing left is water. Mint and lemon are cleansing agents.

Food that cleans from within!

When it comes to nutrition, I focus on raw foods during spring cleansing for body and soul. It is exclusively freshly cooked, with ingredients from the region. Meat and vegetables are the absolute basis. Both come from the organic farmer near the corner and are eaten in moderation.

If the bread, then it is baked by hand, without additives. Most of the time he leaves out completely. For this time there is always some “grandma bread” in my fridge. In my grandmother’s village, in a small oven of many generations, only one type of bread is baked, a sourdough bread. Once thawed, it is stored for two weeks without mold, without hardening.

There are also lots of legumes and nuts, sugar is taboo and alcohol is also banned. It can be fruit in all variations. But never something that bakes on a plane. So apples and pears play the main role. After just a few days, my body looks much more regular.

Good sleep as a window cleaning agent

For me there is nothing more important in life than clarity. A clear view of everyday things. This requires well-cleaned windows. I create this effect above all by getting enough sleep. So I go to bed much earlier than under normal circumstances. The cell phone is not in the bedroom, all electronic devices are also not present in this room.

If I’m not tired yet, a book usually helps me. After ten pages I’m tired after all. We eat until 18:00, after that drink alone. If I notice that I am still very active in the evening, I usually do a second run of three to four miles. After a warm shower afterwards, the bed is immediately announced. Coronated 100 percent successfully in falling asleep.

For a good view I need nine hours of good sleep. After that, however, I definitely have the perspective and clarity I want. For me, sleep is also the key to a healthy soul. Here I process everything that weighs on me during the day, during the weeks.
