Have not seen everything from MCU? You should know this before Doctor Strange 2

To truly enjoy Doctor Strange in Multiverse of Madness, you need to know a few other MCU series and movies. We will show you what is really important.

“Doctor Strange in Multiverse of Madness” is already the 28th film in the Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU). What’s more, there are still six MCU series at Disney + (you can get a subscription here) or, to put it another way: lots of opportunities to lose track.

Since no one can claim to have seen all of this, we want to give you all the information you need to know about attending Doctor Strange at the Multiverse of Madness cinema. For this we present you the most important movies and series for the latest title and cover roughly their most important events. Therefore, there are now some spoilers for the respective works. By the way, the movie stars we interviewed also give you a picture:

Doctor Strange

Since this is a sequel, surprisingly, you should be familiar with the first part. In Doctor Strange, the brilliant but arrogant neurosurgeon Dr. Stephen Strange (Benedict Cumberbatch) had his hands crushed in a serious car accident. In his quest for healing, he discovers that magic is real and trains with the mighty Elder (Tilda Swinton), who dies during the film. Strange also meets Wong (Benedict Wong), who has been his faithful companion ever since. At first, Mordo (Chewitel Ejifor) is also on his side, but he is convinced that the wizards are abusing their power, so he wants to shoot them and rob them of their power. Another important figure is Dr. Christine Palmer (Rachel McAdams), Stephen Strange’s ex-girlfriend, whom he drives away with his arrogant and heartless demeanor.

“WandaVision”

The second main character in Doctor Strange in Multiverse of Madness is Wanda Maximoff known as Scarlet Witch. Her motivation in the film will be greatly influenced by the events of the WandaVision series. In it, she created an illusion of her great love, Vision (Paul Bettany), as she could not process his death in Avengers: Infinity War. They even had two kids together named Billy and Tommy, who are also known as superheroes Wiccan and Speed. Wanda learned over the course of the series that she is the legendary Scarlet witch, capable of the magic of chaos, perhaps the most powerful but also the most dangerous type of magic. At the end of “WandaVision” Wanda has to dispel her illusion because she accidentally held and tortured an entire small town with her. As a result, Vision and her two children also split up. But we hear them on the stage of the series after the credits, as they beg their mother for help. It is unclear exactly where they are, but the multiverse may hold the key to why Scarlet Witch is joining Doctor Strange in his new adventure. But she may not do so as a pure ally: in “WandaVision” she took possession of Darkhold, a book that is said to contain all the magic spells but corrupt its readers.

“Loki”

Multiversi plays a key role in MCU Phase 4, and “Loki” opened the door for him. Lord of practical jokes (Tom Hiddlestone) met Time Variance Authority (TVA) here after the events of Avengers: Endgame left him out of his target timeline. Finally, TVA ensures that the real timeline is met, all deviant variants are mercilessly deleted. In the series finale, Loki learned that TVA was created by the one who stands (Jonathan Mayors). He was once a scientist from the future who discovered the existence of the multiverse. Many other versions of him from other realities were able to do the same, and between his aggressive variants, an invading war quickly broke out that wiped out almost the entire multiverse. Therefore, TVA must prevent any timeline in which a bad version of the Standing One may arise. However, the whole construct collapsed because a female variant of Loki named Sylvie (Sophia Di Martino) killed what was left. So multiverse gates are now open at MCU. With whom practically anything is possible.

“Marvel’s What if …?”

This Disney + animated series shows us what multiverse is capable of. “What if…?” showed us familiar scenarios from MCU, but changed an essential detail, resulting in entirely new stories. Two episodes are especially important for “Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness”. First, the first in which Peggy Carter (Hayley Atwell) takes the super soldier serum instead of Steve Rogers (Chris Evans) and as a result Captain Carter is born instead of Captain America.

Even more important is episode 4, in which Doctor Strange does not have his hands in the car accident, but his great love Dr. Christine Palmer loses. As a result, he gets lost in the really dark corners of magic in order to undo her death. However, since her death is a fixed point in time, it takes large amounts of energy to achieve it. In return, he swallows a number of demons and creatures, giving him a really unhealthy color, among a few other side effects, of course. After all, Doctor Strange, who is the Supreme Wizard or Supreme Wizard in this universe, that is why he has been nicknamed the Strange Supreme by the fans, Dr. Cancel the death of Christine Palmer. In doing so, however, he creates a paradox that causes his entire universe to collapse, where Strange, who realized his mistake too late, was threatened with fate in the end having to spend eternity alone in this world . In the season finale, Strange Supreme helped Captain Carter’s Guardians of the Multiverse defeat the Infinity Stone-equipped Ultron. Despite his dubious deeds, this Doctor Strange is not necessarily bad, but we will surely learn more about his stay in cinemas soon, because Strange Supreme also appears in the new MCU movie.

“Spider-Man: No Way Home”

In addition to the events of “Loki”, Strange himself jumped into the stability of the multiverse. In “No Way Home” he just wanted to use a magic spell to make everyone forget that Peter Parker (Tom Holland) is actually Spider-Man. However, he intervened in the execution of the spell, which eventually caused Strange to break it. This caused quite a few people who know the truth about Spider-Man to be drawn from their realities into this reality. Along the way, we also learned that meanwhile, in the main reality of MCU, Wong has risen to become the supreme magician and thus the secret guardian of the earth. In the end, Doctor Strange was able to prevent the worst by erasing all memories of Peter Parker’s entire existence.

But the multiverse suffered some cracks from the incident and the resulting consequences will have to be dealt with by the Marvel hero in “Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness”. New MCU movie opens May 4 in German cinemas and we hope you are well prepared for this now.
