foundation

The Alliance was founded in April 2019 at the Hanover Fair, headquartered in Reinach (Switzerland). Founding members include Beckhoff, Endress + Hauser, Hilscher, Ifm, Kuka, Multivac and SAP.

goals

Alliance Open Industry 4.0 wants to develop manufacturer-independent solutions and services Industry 4.0 for manufacturing plants and automated warehouses with its members. He sees himself as an implementation alliance: Working groups develop use cases based on the reference architecture and implement them. These solutions are then shared with the community. The technology base of the Alliance Open Industry 4.0 is an open architecture based on RAMI 4.0, which is based on the four building blocks Device Connectivity, Edge, Operator Cloud and Cloud Central, as well as a corresponding range of services. One of the most important features of the architecture is the automatic insertion of assets through the four layers of architecture using standard open interfaces based on the Asset Management Shell (AAS).

projects

In addition to various working groups and their implementation projects, the Danish University of Aalborg has successfully tested the open architecture of the Open Industry Alliance 4.0. The researchers demonstrated that simple networking from the store floor to the cloud is possible with the reference architecture. In its concept test, the university team connected a robot from Kuka to a Microsoft Azure cloud from the Lego Group via an end-user interface by Munich-based IoT Device Insight specialist. According to Allianz, there are currently 17 other pilot projects in which Allianz is involved.

Management team

In addition to CEO Nils Herzberg, Ekrem Yigitdöl has been part of the management team since October 2021. He is the Managing Director. In February 2022, Ricardo Dunkel will join as Technical Director. It undertakes the further technical development of the reference architecture.
