C-City Project: The city of Gütersloh launches a European cultural network

A large cultural network has been created by Gütersloh. The launch conference for the C-City project will take place at the Stadthalle Gütersloh from 12 to 15 May. 40 participants come from the twin cities of Gütersloh alone. The culture network aims to promote artistic exchange and shared ideas.

“Europe is next door” and is getting even closer together at the opening conference of the C-City cultural project: around 40 participants from partner cities Gütersloh, Châteauroux (F), Broxtowe (GB), Falun (S) and Grudziadz . Artistic exchange, development of common ideas, learning from each other: all this is implied by the idea of ​​the project, which comes from the culture experts of the city and is implemented in the field in close cooperation with the center of adult education and in coordination with the city office. twinning of the central public relations department and city representation. Not only the partner cities are cordially invited to the conference, but also all the residents of Gütersloh who want to participate in the European cultural network “made in Gütersloh”. After numerous virtual votes, the May conference is the next step in the further planning of C-City, which is oriented towards 2025. Four main topics have emerged from previous joint votes: sports / food / sustainability, culture and memory / museum / customs, music / theater / dance as well as visual arts and art in public space. The first sketches of ideas have already been developed together, and the planned implementation of Hans Werner Henze’s children’s opera “Pollicino” has already taken shape. C-City will be featured in a film in which all participating cities have contributed – along with much more information, it can be accessed at www.C-City.eu.

The focus of the first C-City conference is the basic idea of ​​the project: cultural exchange between cities, artistic collaboration on various projects as well as the sharpening and further selection of project ideas. The state and the federal government are also closely monitoring the Gütersloh initiative. The Federal Foreign Office and the European Ministry are represented by keynote speakers. Among others, Dr. Stephan Holthoff-Pförtner, NRW Minister for Federal and European Affairs, and the representative for foreign cultural policy at the Federal Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Irmgard Maria Fellner, announced keynote speeches. Dr. Malte Tim Zabel, co-director of the Bertelsmann Stiftung’s “Future of Europe” program, is also on the list of speakers. Lotte Foth, head of Europe Direct in Gütersloh district, brings the municipal aspects of the topic (see program summary below).

Artists and musicians from the region also present the cultural diversity of the local scene. At the end of the conference – on Saturday – should be made the ceremonial signing of a charter that manifests the willingness to cooperate and carry out the project. Andreas Kimpel, City Councilor for Cultural Affairs in Gütersloh, says: “With the first conference, we are laying the foundations for the European, C-City municipal building, which will grow step by step over the coming years and into its rooms. “Step by step, cultural and civil society life will move. Residents are in particular cultural actors from Gütersloh, Grudziadz, Broxtowe, Falun and Châteauroux. The doors of the house are open, transparent and based on European values!”

As the conference is before the conference: Châteauroux has already been confirmed as the host city for the next update in 2023.
